A Cacao Drink | Banana Bloom Smoothie

This smoothie is a quick and easy way to treat your body to a well-rounded hit of nutrients. Perfect if you live a busy lifestyle or enjoy lying in bed and hitting the snooze button eleven times before starting the mad rush out the door. This smoothie only takes a couple of minutes to throw together and it will cover a large chunk of your daily fibre needs, settle your tummy for easy daily digestion, give yourself a healthy mood and energy boost and wake up those dozy muscles. This recipe is pretty loose and I encourage “eyeballing” the measurements to save time on dishes and prep time, the important thing is to get it all in there and get on with your day. This smoothie is also a hit with kids due to its approachable chocolate/banana flavour.

You will need some Frozen Bananas; being frozen helps keep the smoothie nice and cool and add some level of thickness without diluting, organic frozen bananas usually provide the freshest and sweetest flavour. You will also need some Whole Grain Wheat Cereal, I like to use a particular famous Australian wheat-based cereal that will remain nameless for the time being but I can tell you it comes in a blue, red and white box and the cereal comes in a convenient "brick" shape. You’ll also need Coconut Yoghurt or Natural Yoghurt; some brands make a “Greek Style” Coconut Yoghurt which is the ultimate smoothie ingredient in my opinion. And lastly you will need some Honey and the Milk of your choice (I prefer almond milk for this one as it has a nice creamy fullness).

One final tip: try to make sure that the Coconut Yoghurt and Milk are fresh out of the fridge and nice and chilled (no one likes a warm smoothie!). Have fun, make it your own and if you feel like sharing your ideas, results or feedback don’t hesitate to contact Erbista.

 

Ingredients

  • 1 third of a cup of Frozen Banana
  • 1 third of a cup of Whole Grain Wheat Cereal
  • 2 heaped tablespoons of Coconut Yoghurt (or Natural Yoghurt)
  • 1 teaspoon of Honey
  • 2 thirds of a cup of your choice of Milk
  • 1 tablespoon of Erbista Cacao Bloom Powder

 

Method

  1. Combine the Frozen Banana, Whole Grain Wheat Cereal, Coconut Yoghurt, Honey and Milk in a blender for 15 seconds.
  1. Add the Erbista Cacao Bloom Powder and blend for a further 30 seconds or until smooth.
  1. Taste the smoothie to check the balance is to your liking. (You may want to add some more Honey for added sweetness, more Milk for less thickness, more Frozen Banana for more thickness and chill or more Erbista Cacao Bloom powder for more of that chocolaty flavour)
  1. Pour the contents of the blender into the vessel of your choice and enjoy! (You may want to garnish with some fresh banana slices)
